Likely the only item that will be somewhat puzzling, if you're new to
pcPix.com, is the entry called pcPix. Each package includes at least one. A pcPix is an 8x10 print,
produced from one or more of the images in your photo shoot, rendered in an artistic style. Sometimes,
pcPix.com customers find a pcPix to be their favorite image in the entire package. Sometimes,
the style and interpretation pcPix.com has selected isn't to a customer's taste. It's pretty well
established that you can't argue taste, so this item is offered as-is, a gift from pcPix.com to you
to go with the rest of your photographs. See the pcPix.com portfolio
for examples of pcPix.
A major feature of every pcPix.com package is that all the pictures shot
as part of your photo shoot (typically from eighty to three hundred images) are provided on a disc with
the rest of your package. This includes all the following:
- Full-resolution digital copies of all pictures. These JPGs allow you to print (for
personal, noncommercial use) as many copies as you wish
of any picture shot, not just those you selected for printing as part of your package.
- Full-resolution lossless TIFFs of all pictures (if you've selected DVD as your disc type, or paid the
extra fee for lossless TIFFs on CD-ROM). This give you the highest possible fidelity, in case you wish to
do further processing of any of the images prior to display or printing.
- Wallpaper files, in 1024x768, 800x600, and 640x480 format, of all images. Because we shoot our
images in a 6:4 proportion, the 4:3 proportion of a computer screen means we have to cut off the edges, squeeze the
image onto the screen (making everything look short and fat), or add black bars to the left and right. If
you've ever seen normal 4:3 TV displayed on a widescreen TV, you know the issue. Our wallpaper files simply have
the edges cut off as necessary to fit the screen. It's not too bad for landscape (wider than tall) images, with
just a little snipped from the top and bottom, but it can be drastic for portrait images (taller than wide),
which end up displaying only about the middle third of the photograph on the wallpaper. This is done
automatically to save time (and costs), so some images' wallpapers may not be usable. You can always
recreate these, cropping the images differently if you wish, from the full-resolution images provided.
- Print files are the actual files we used to make the prints included in your package. They are
cropped to the correct dimensions for the print produced, color-corrected for the photofinisher we use,
and you can use the files to make extra prints of a quality exactly equal to the prints delivered as part of your
package.
- Full shoot as website. Similar to the online proofs but without the visible image number, copyright
statement and pcPix.com logo. You can copy this entire directory right to a web server, making all the
shots visible to anyone on the web.
- Your favorite pictures as website. Much like the "full shoot as website" above, but this
smaller site is made up of only the pictures you selected for printing, presumably your favorites. You may find
this a convenient way to share only your favorite shots with others.
You'll have plenty to explore and share when your pcPix.com package arrives!
Questions We'll Ask You
There are several decisions you'll need to make before we will be able to
prepare your package.
- Your Contact Information
- We'll ask for an email address, phone number, and mailing address.
- Where You'd Like Your Pictures Shot
- In some circumstances we may agree to an alternate location, but we strongly prefer shooting
in a subject's home. For many subjects, particularly younger children, this makes for greater
comfort and better pictures. It also makes wardrobe changes easier, provides a wealth of
familiar props, and normally makes it easier for the entire family to be a part of the
photo shoot. Locations further than five miles "as the crow flies" from downtown Redmond
incur a travel charge of $1 per mile.
- Receiving Your Proofs
- You can receive your proofs online (no extra charge), on a CD-ROM ($10 charge),
or as actual prints (this charge varies wildly depending on the number of
pictures; ask your photographer for a binding estimate).
- Your Disc Preference
- You'll get an electronic version of all your images on a disc. You can select
CD-ROM (extra charge of $5, or $10 if you want full-resolution TIFFs), DVD-ROM, DVD+ROM, or
DVD-RW (extra charge of $3). If you don't know what kind of DVD your computer can read,
your photographer can bring a sample of each sort of disc to your photo shoot so you
can check. DVDs are preferred due to their high capacity compared to CD-ROMs.
- Wallet Pictures
- Your wallet pictures are actually printed on a 4x6 print, with a number of
copies of the selected image in several standard and smaller sizes. We can cut
them apart for you or provide the print as is. You can also specify glossy
finish (we normally print wallet pictures with a satin finish).
- 4x6 Pictures
- We normally provide your 4x6's in a small "brag book." If you're planning
to mount the 4x6's in a photo album or frame some or all, you may find it more
convenient to receive your 4x6's in an envelope instead. You can also specify
glossy finish (we normally print 4x6 pictures with a satin finish).
- 5x7 Pictures
- You can specify satin finish (we normally print 5x7 pictures with a glossy
finish).
- 8x10 Pictures
- We normally put your 8x10's into an unobtrusive frame. You may wish to put
your 8x10's into a frame of your own selection, in which case we can provide your
8x10's in an envelope instead. You can also specify satin finish (we normally
print 8x10 pictures with a glossy finish).
- pcPix
- These are specially prepared 8x10's, and are supplied in an unobtrusive frame
unless you specify that they be delivered in an envelope instead. You can also
specify glossy finish (we normally provide pcPix with a satin finish).
We always try to get these questions answered before starting
the photo shoot, so we will be able to complete your order quickly once the shoot is
done.
